BD consulting & investment is a private limited company registered in Switzerland and has been active since 2016. We operate from Switzerland and have invested in companies in Southern Africa.
Our investment rationale
We share the vision of the UN sustainable development agenda and place people and their environment at the centre of our business. We have been developing a business portfolio that targets access to energy, and job creation through industrialization.
Achieving the Energy and Industrialization goals requires massive resources that the public sector alone can’t mobilize. Engaging the private sector by attracting foreign investment is therefore crucial. We see these challenges as an opportunity toward developing bankable projects with an attractive rate of return for private investors while contributing towards reducing poverty.
Energy Infrastructure
According to the UN sustainable development goal # 7 clean, reliable and affordable energy is essential to all opportunities and challenges related to development such as job creation, security, climate change, food production or income. In the endeavor to advance access to electricity we focus on developing bankable energy generation projects in peripheral regions as well as in economic growth hot spots, and on bringing them to financial close. We promote entrepreneurship by partnering local enterprises with international financial and technical partners, and institutions.
Industrialization
Special Industrial Zones (SIZ’s) have many advantages by providing quality infrastructure, easy access to industrial land, fiscal incentives, streamlined procedures and the benefits of clustering. They have been crucial in the industrial transformation of many Asian countries. We believe it is possible to apply best practice to develop successfully and expand SIZ’s in the context of Sub-Saharan low-income economies.

BD's executive director, Greg Binkert, is a member of the Board of Directors of Monter Capital Partnership Ltd. (Zambia).

Greg is also an independent Non-Executive Director in Emerging Africa Capital Technology Limited (Nigeria).
Emerging Africa Capital Technology Limited is a leading provider of financial services aimed to facilitate the investment process for and with African entities and individuals. The company’s objective is to grow Africa's economy through sustainable financing and investing solutions.
The Team
Gregor Binkert
CEO
Greg is the founder of BD consulting & investment and the companys Development Finance and Policy Analysis Specialist. He worked at the World Bank where he held the positions of Lead Economist and Country Director among others. Greg brings a wealth of experience in managing complex infrastructure and human development projects to the company. His profound understanding of the political economy of development, the functioning of public institutions and financial markets positions the company well in the area of realizing public-private partnerships. Greg holds a BA from Harvard and a Ph.D. from Stanford University.
Helena Dali
Managing Partner
Helena is the co-founder of BD consulting & investment and the company’s financial and Human Resources executive. She worked in international development cooperation as a senior advisor, and as an independent consultant in Education, Vocational Training, Public Health, and Migration. Her institutional background includes the public sector, non-governmental organizations, and bilateral and multilateral agencies in Switzerland, Africa and Southeast Asia.
Benita Schweizer
Executive Assistant
Benita acts as liaise person for our project partners and is responsible for content through a variety of channels on different fronts of our project portfolio. She worked in finance and business development in educational institutions, NGOs and internatinal consulting firms in various African countries before joining BD consulting & investment.

BD consulting & investment has a project portfolio that encompasses projects at the pipeline stage and active projects mainly located on the African Continent.
Special Economic Zones
BD is a shareholder of MozParks, a public-private partnership between the Mozambican state and Swiss/Mozambican private investors. It is Mozambique's premier Industrial Park, Agro Park & Free-Trade Zone operator and developer. MozParks operates the Beluluane Industrial Park (Maputo Province), Cabo Delgado Parks and the Nampula Province based Topuito Industrial and Agro-Processing Park. The parks are combined free-trade zones for exporting and for domestic production.
Solar Energy
The development of the Zitundo Solar Power Plant is well advanced; we are in the process of raising capital.
BD consulting & investment is also a shareholder of Epsilon Energia Solar, a Mozambican company that focuses on distribution of solar houshold systems, mini-grids particularly for Health Centers and commercial clusters, and solar pumps. The company has already several thousands clients and is growing fast.
